JPEG and WebP use lossy compression. Higher quality usually makes larger files. PNG ignores this setting.
JPEG cannot preserve transparency. Transparent areas use this color.

How to split an image online
Choose an image
Select, drop or paste a JPG, PNG or WebP, or load a direct HTTPS image link. Try the sample to explore without preparing a file.
Choose rows and columns
Use a quick layout or enter your own grid. One row makes side-by-side tiles; one column makes a vertical stack. Review the numbered guides and any right-edge or bottom-edge crop.
Pick your output
PNG preserves transparency without lossy encoding. JPEG and WebP offer adjustable quality. For JPEG, choose the background color used behind transparent pixels.
Split and download
Confirm the split and save individual tiles or the ZIP. Names include the tile number, row and column. Changing a setting removes old results so you can generate a matching set.
Know your tile size before you export
Rows divide the height. Columns divide the width. Each tile keeps its source pixels without resizing. Equal tiles may require trimming a small remainder from the right or bottom edge.
| Image | Grid | Each tile | Trim |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3000 × 1000 | 1 × 3 | 1000 × 1000 | None |
| 3000 × 1000 | 3 × 1 | 3000 × 333 | Bottom: 1 px |
| 3001 × 2002 | 2 × 3 | 1000 × 1001 | Right: 1 px |
| 3240 × 1350 | 1 × 3 | 1080 × 1350 | None |
Equal pieces do not always mean square pieces
A 3×3 grid produces square tiles only when the usable source image is square. To make three square tiles side by side, start with a 3:1 source ratio. This tool does not automatically crop to a social platform’s preferred ratio.
For each tile: width = floor(image width ÷ columns); height = floor(image height ÷ rows). Any unused edge pixels are shown in the crop notice before export.
Questions before you export
How do I split an image into 3 equal parts?
Choose 1 row and 3 columns for left-to-right thirds, or 3 rows and 1 column for top-to-bottom thirds. Review any edge trimming, then split. ImageSplitKit starts with 1 × 3 selected.
What is the difference between 2 × 3 and 3 × 2?
The first number is rows; the second is columns. A 2 × 3 layout has two rows of three tiles. A 3 × 2 layout has three rows of two tiles. Both produce six files, with different shapes.
Which input and output formats are supported?
Inputs: JPG, PNG and WebP. Outputs: PNG, JPEG and WebP, when the browser supports the requested encoder. If it does not, an error is shown instead of silently changing formats. Animated inputs export a still frame; GIF, HEIC, AVIF, BMP and SVG inputs are not supported in this version.
Will my image lose quality or transparency?
The selected regions are not resized or stretched. PNG avoids a new lossy encoding step; JPEG and WebP use the quality setting and may change pixels. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPEG fills transparent areas with your selected background color. Metadata and color representation may differ from the source. No format can restore detail already lost in the original.
Why did my previous results disappear?
A different grid, format, quality, background or image means different output. Old results are cleared immediately to prevent downloading the wrong version. Click Split image again to generate the updated set.
Can I load an image from a link?
Yes. Right-click an image on its original website and copy its image address. Paste the direct HTTPS link into the image-link field and click Load image, or paste it onto the image selection area to load immediately. Links must return JPG, PNG or WebP bytes; a webpage or sharing-page address is not an image link. The host must allow cross-origin access (CORS). Links requiring sign-in, expired links and hosts that block access cannot be read. Loading stops after 20 seconds or 20 MiB; Clear image cancels it.
Are images or clipboard contents uploaded?
No images are uploaded for processing. Processing and ZIP creation run in your browser. Clipboard data is read only when you actively paste; the tool does not automatically read your clipboard. Loading a link sends a request directly from your browser to the image host, which can see your IP address and requested URL. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What are the limits?
One image at a time, up to 20 MiB, 24 million decoded pixels and 16,384 pixels per side. Rows and columns range from 1 to 10 and cannot exceed the corresponding image dimensions. Total encoded tiles are limited to 128 MiB before ZIP packaging. Device memory may impose a lower practical limit, especially on phones.
Can I use these for social posts or printing?
You can use the exported tiles wherever their dimensions and format fit. Numbering follows reading order, not a guaranteed social publishing order. This tool does not provide a platform-specific carousel crop, profile feed simulator, paper size, DPI layout or print margins.
Why is my PNG or ZIP larger than the original?
PNG can be larger than a JPEG source. A ZIP groups the encoded images and is not intended to make them significantly smaller. Choose JPEG or WebP and adjust quality when a smaller file is more useful than lossless encoding.
Your image stays in this browser tab
Selected images, previews and ZIPs are processed locally. Choosing another image or Clear image releases previous results from the tool. Closing the page ends the session. Original files are not changed; downloads stay where your browser saves them.
